Global Reading Challenge
Sacred Heart School 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Global Reading Challenge, a reading competition hosted by the King County Library System (KCLS).
Students work in teams of 5-6 students and read six engaging books that are chosen and provided by KCLS. The program is led by School Librarian, Mrs. Michelle Sneifer, and Reading Specialist, Mrs. Beth Klein. Mrs. Sneifer and Mrs. Klein meet with the students during lunch recess once a week from October-January to prepare for the competition. First, students participate in an in-school challenge conducted by KCLS library staff at the end of January, and then the winning team goes on to compete against other schools in the area.
Students who participate are exposed to a variety of genres and reading levels that expand their reading repertoire and learn to work in a team towards a common goal.
