Pre-Kindergarten

Sacred Heart School’s Pre-Kindergarten program is academic in focus with the intention of preparing the students for a successful kindergarten experience.

The class is limited to 18 students with a teacher-student ratio of 1:9 (professional pre-school teacher and an aide).

All students applying to Sacred Heart Pre-K must be 4 by August 31st.

Pre-Kindergarten Schedule Options

Our Pre-Kindergarten meets five days/week, Monday - Friday. We offer three different schedule options for our Pre-Kindergarten students. Families may switch between schedule options at any time during the school year. 

Option A - Half Day Program Five Days/Week

  • 8:30 - 11:30 am, Monday - Friday
  • Lunch Bunch Optional Daily - Students dismiss at 12:00 after lunch

Option B - Full Day Program Five Days/Week

  • 8:30 - 3:10 pm, Monday - Friday

Option C - Partial Full Day Program (Two Half Days and Three Full Days/Week)

  • 8:30 - 11:30 am Mondays and Fridays
  • 8:30 - 3:10 pm Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
  • Lunch Bunch Optional on Mondays and Fridays - Students dismiss at 12:00 after lunch

Specialist Classes

  • Art – 30 minutes weekly with Mrs. Hartmann.  Various mediums used and holiday projects incorporated. 
  • Music – 30 minutes weekly with Mrs. Lucarelli.  Includes movement, memorization, and lots of fun. 
  • Guidance lessons –once a month with school counselor, Mrs. Boyd. 

Special Events

  • Dad’s night (October) - pumpkin carving with Dad, students perform poem and songs. 

  • Mom’s night (May) - students make special gifts for Mom and perform poem and songs. 

  • Thanksgiving Feast - after a unit exploring the Thanksgiving story, students celebrate with a Thanksgiving “feast” eating some of the same foods they did at the first Thanksgiving. 

  • Christmas Pageant – students memorize a line of the Christmas story, a poem, and sing songs to present to family/friends in the Moore Theatre. 

  • Penguin unit (spring) – learning habitat, various species, life cycle. 

  • Butterfly unit (spring) – learning life cycle and observing in class. 

  • Field trip to Woodland Park Zoo (spring) starting with penguins! A zoo staff member (and Sacred Heart teacher) guides us through the zoo with her knowledge of the animals and current zoo happenings. 

Uniforms

  • Pre-K students are allowed to wear any appropriate style bottoms.  The girls may choose to wear the Sacred Heart jumper, skort, or skirt.  Pajama bottoms and sweatpants are not allowed for either the boys or the girls.

Family Requirements

  • Fundraising requirements are the same for Pre-K families as those with students in grades K-8.
  • Service Job requirements are unique to Pre-K if your family only has a Pre-K student. If you have a student in another grade level, you will need to be involved in our school-wide Service Job requirement program.

At the completion of the Pre-Kindergarten year, students wishing to enter Sacred Heart School’s kindergarten program will be required to participate in a readiness assessment, along with all other kindergarten applicants.
